About Shaun

Background

From as early as he can remember, Shaun Wane’s life has been a series of challenges.

As the third child of four growing up in a volatile household on a tough estate in Wigan, he and his older brother found themselves the outlet for their Father’s anger.

The bond between the brothers grew strong as a result of this adversity and, with very little guidance, they soon channelled their energy into anti-social behaviour and petty crime.

Left unchecked this behaviour resulted in Shaun being expelled from High School before he had the chance to gain any academic qualifications.

Such was the severity of the punishment he received from his Father, he left the family home at fifteen to live with his childhood sweetheart Lorraine never to return.

Having been conditioned to endure physical punishment and with a ferociously competitive nature, the game of Rugby League had long been a sport that Shaun excelled at and, at the age of fifteen, he was signed to Wigan RLFC by Maurice Lindsey.
This environment is where Shaun’s education began.

Being an integral part of a hugely successful team, working with some of the greatest players ever to play the game and applying the core attributes of discipline, respect and attention to detail, Shaun established the strongest of mindset.

These initial attributes formed the cornerstone of his core leadership principles.

Principles that he continued to develop as a business leader in the Construction Industry, in Asset Finance and naturally, as Head Coach of the World’s most famous Rugby League Club, the Wigan Warriors.

Shaun saw nothing of the considerable signing on fee entrusted to his parents, but nevertheless channeled his aggression, his physicality, and his competitive nature into playing at the highest level and winning the most prestigious of trophies the sport had to offer.

Having become one of the world's most successful team managers, he now applies his knowledge, experience, and principals as a Leadership Mentor within organisations that recognise the value to be gained from harnessing his wealth of professional expert.
